California CU partners with Santa Clarita Valley School districts to launch 4th grade Book Buy Program - FINANCIAL-24
California Credit Union has partnered with four school districts in the Santa Clarita Valley in a new “4th Grade Book Buy Program” aimed at encouraging young readers. Through the program, California Credit Union donated 900 books to 36 public elementary schools in the Castaic Union School District, Newhall School District, Saugus Union School District, and Sulphur Springs School District.
To implement the program, credit union representatives partnered with each school district to ask school librarians to compile a list of 4th grade books needed for their particular school. California Credit Union then purchased all the requested books, and is in the process of delivering them to each school.
“We are excited to expand our school partnership programs in the Santa Clarita Valley with this important initiative to support young readers,” said California Credit Union CEO Steve O’Connell. “Elementary school libraries play an essential role in encouraging students to discover the life-long joy of reading. We know there is an ever growing need to continue to expand their libraries, and hope this program will provide much-needed support to our local schools and their students.”
The 4th Grade Book Buy Program extends California Credit Union’s existing school partnership programs in the Santa Clarita Valley. The credit union and KHTS Radio currently sponsor local students to attend the Sacramento Road Trip where community leaders and students come together to visit the California State Capitol to advocate for issues impacting the Santa Clarita Valley. California Credit Union also sponsors the KHTS radio 4th Grade Book Report Program where students deliver their book reports live on the radio.
California Credit Union is also a premier partner of the Santa Clarita Valley Education Foundation, supporting programs that directly aid students and teachers, such as Principal for a Day, Teacher of the Year and the Literacy and Arts Festival. The credit union also supports the WISH Education Foundation, sponsoring events to help raise funds for programs that elevate and prepare students for life.
