Sheraz Gardazi weds  journalist's daughter



Syed Sheraz Gardazi, photo journalist of Geo News and Member of the Governing Body, National Press Club, Islamabad wedded during the week to Syed Khalid Gardezi's daughter in the Federal Capital Islamabad. Khalid Gardezi is also a well-known journalist and runs his own media houses and a popular figure among the office-bearers of PFUJ, RIUJ and NPC alike.
A large number of journalists attended the Mehndi ceremony of Sheraz at his home town Bagh in Azad Kashmir.
Some of those who attended the Mehndi ceremony included: Raja Mushtaq Minhas (Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Azad Kashmir), Afzal Butt (President PFUJ), Shakeel Anjum (President National Press Club), Mohammad Aslam Khan (senior columnist), Nasir Hashmi (RIUJ Acting President), Abid Abbasi (Incharge, NPC Rawalpindi Campus), Izhar Niazi, Bashir Usmani, Jehangir Minhas, Tariq Chaudhry (former NPC President), Syed Khalid Gardezi, Kashif Mir, Faisal Azfar Alvi, Fauzia Rana, Rizwan Abbasi, Yasir Arif, Sher Muhammad Awan, Adeel Bashir, Arbab Astoori, Asghar Hayat, Jamal Ahmed, Ehtisham Kiyani.

Red Crescent's anti-drug awareness drive at SGM


Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) organised two-day flash mobs at Safa Gold Mall (SGM), aimed at creating awareness among the people, especially youth, about substance abuse. The flash mobs include a briefed dialogue in which a father struggles to persuade his son, who is addicted of drugs, on stopping this harmful practice. 
Talking at the inaugural function, Pakistan Red Crescent officials said their Society was working to make contribution to the efforts being made by the public and private institutions for curbing usage of drugs among the people. They said the flash mobs were being organized to create awareness among the people about harmfulness and negative effects of drugs and for this purpose they find Safa Gold Mall a best place, as it always remained flocked by the customers. 
An alarming number of the youth, including students, are consumers of the drugs and this is concerning, they regretted. 
Safa Gold Mall's General Manager Mohsin Masood Dar appreciated the PRCS' activity and asked the Mall's management for allowing the PRCS' officials to organize similar activities on the Mall's premises in future. 
Mall's Marketing and Activation Manage Junaid Ahmed said: "The customers start staring and whispering in beginning of the flash mob, but soon they surprise and clap to appreciate the team." He said the Mall's management was fully cooperating with the PRCS's officials.    


Second anniversary of Mandwa Film Club



National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) organized celebration on the occasion of second anniversary of Mandwa Film club with live performance of renowned singer Taranum Naz, music, movie quiz, food (Potluck) and lots of fun. This year 40 national and international films were screened including films from UK, USA, Korea, Japan, Hungry, Iran, and Argentina. On International Film week Ambassadors and diplomats of respective country graced the event with their presence.
Executive Director Lok Virsa Dr. Fouzia Saeed, in her opening remarks said that it is an honor for the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage for successful completion of two years of Mandwa Film Club. She said that Lok Virsa Mandwa film club will continue its effort to promote Pakistan film industry and its artists by projecting their work here at Lok Virsa. As well as we are promoting the soft image and projecting the positivity of our country in the World.
"Still more films from our glorious past which relates to our folk culture and traditions, more glimpse of international cinema, more dazzling presence of movie celebrities and more fun is in the priority list of our film club", Dr. Fouzia said.
She said that our new talent can learn from the film industry of golden era. She paid glowing tribute to the ever green singer of Pakistan music industry Taranum Naz in a big applause from the audience.

Mayor opens weekly Craft Bazaar





Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Sheikh Anser Aziz inaugurated a weekly Craft Bazaar organised by the Sports and Culture Directorate of Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) at Art and Craft Village. Sports and Culture Directorate Executive Director Sanaullah Aman and other senior officers were also present on the occasion. Artists from all parts of the country including Gilgit-Baltistan are participating in the event to display their rich cultural heritage before the visitors.
The Mayor, in his opening remarks said that Art and Craft Village would be revamped and made fully operational to provide recreational facilities for the residents of the federal capital. Art and Craft Village which is unique due to its natural environment and locality would be made hub of cultural, regional, traditional, recreational and entertainment activities.
Sports and Culture Directorate Executive Director Sanaullah Aman apprised the mayor that in line with directions, weekly Art Bazaar has been organised at the end of every week from Friday evening to Sunday evening for provision of recreational and entertainment opportunities to the public, especially the children.


USAID 'Mango Gala' 



U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) organized a "Mango Gala" during the week in which USAID Mission Director Jerry Bisson and Chairman Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) Dr. Yusuf Zafar paved the way for 13 mango farmers to receive mango graders worth more than $750,000, which will greatly increase Pakistan's mango production and exports. Nepalese Ambassador Sewa Lamsal Adhikari also attended the event, held in Islamabad, to learn more about the Pakistani mango sector. 
The Mango Gala showcased USAID's commitment to supporting Pakistan's mango sector. The event also brought together public and private mango sector stakeholders to discuss export trends and explore new opportunities.  Leading mango producers and exporters displayed Pakistan's many mango varieties.
Bisson said: "The U.S. Government, through USAID, is determined to increase access to new markets for Pakistani mango farmers, while ensuring compliance with international grading standards and export protocols. We want to make Pakistani mangoes as competitive as they can be in the international markets.
Chairman Zafar also expressed his appreciation for the generous contribution from the United States in supporting this sector of Pakistan's agriculture industry.
