CoVantage Credit Union sponsors student reality fair - FINANCIAL-24
CoVantage Credit Union recently sponsored a reality fair at the Forest Park High School in Crystal Falls. CoVantage worked with the school to make the day beneficial for the Forest Park senior class, a school official noted.
The hands-on simulation gave the students a taste of the “real world”–complete with occupation, salary, debt and monthly payments.
Students learned valuable budgeting skills while balancing their wants verses needs.
The many community volunteers were essential to making the day a success. These volunteers were Jane Bal, Nathan Clark, JoAnn Heimerl, Peggy Ketola, Sharon Lato, Erika Lindwall, Lew Lorenzoni, Stephanie Nocerini and Staria Syrjanen.
Katie Clark and Kathy Gussert from the Crystal Falls Branch of the CoVantage Credit Union also attended to help.
The Forest Park School District acknowledges the many volunteers and give special recognition to CoVantage Credit Union for sponsoring such a great educational, real-life activity for our class of 2018.
The students had the opportunity to form a budget, with reality setting in (the fickle fingers of fate).
All students experienced expenses and windfalls coming their way.
Examples included vehicle repairs and veterinarian bills as unexpected expenses, while monetary gifts from a grandparent or winning the lottery represent some of the windfalls.
Students worked with a given salary, marital status, and possible dependents to plan for their budget.
