Pakistan beat India by 180 runs to win ICC Champions Trophy 2017 - FINANCIAL-24
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan beat arch rival India by 180 runs for the first time in the final of ICC Champions Trophy at the Oval Sunday and became Champion of Champions.
Chasing the target of 339 India were all out in 31st over.
Fakhar Zaman was declared Man of the Match who remained highest scorer for Pakistan with 114 runs. Muhammad Amir and Hassan Ali secured three wickets each and restricted India to a minor total.
Opener Fakhar Zaman set the platform with a brilliant 106-ball 114 backed up by half centuries from Azhar Ali (59) and Mohammad Hafeez (57 not out) to give bowlers an ideal scoreboard pressure on a powerful Indian batting which was bundled for 158 in 30.3 overs.
The win is remarkable for the fact that Pakistan qualified for the Champions Trophy only as number eight and last team after cancelling a tri-series in Zimbabwe in fear of losing the spot in case they lost.

win over England with a back spasm, gave Pakistan an ideal start removing the top three - Rohit Sharma (nought), Virat Kohli (five) and Shikhar Dhawan (21) - who had scored 784 runs before this game in the tournament.
Rohit was trapped leg-before with the third ball of the innings and in his second over Amir had the prized scalp of Virat Kohli.
Kohli did get a life off the second ball when Azhar dropped a regulation catch at first slip. It could have been costly but Pakistan sighed a relief when off the very next ball Kohli was caught at point by Shadab Khan off a miscued on drive.
Amir returned from the other end to remove tournament's top run scorer Shikhar Dhawan for 21, leaving India struggling at 33-3.
Leg-spinner Shadab Khan confidently reviewed a leg before decision against Yuvraj Singh and got that in his favour to further push India back before Hasan Ali made it 54-5 when he had MS Dhoni hooking into the hands of Imad Wasim.
Hardik Pandya swung his bat with good effect during his 43-ball 76 with six sixes and four boundaries but that was too little and too late. Hasan finished with 3-19 to take his tally to 13 in the tournament, getting the golden ball for the best bowler of the tournament. Amir finished with 3-16 and Shadab 2-60.
The win is Pakistan's only third in 16 ICC event matches, all coming in Champions Trophy. Pakistan had beaten India in 2004 and 2009 Champions trophy.
A proud Sarfraz Ahmed lifted the trophy, with Pakistan also getting 2.2 million dollars in prize money. India received 1.1 million dollars as runners-up.
The cricket team was congratulated and showered with praise by political, sports and entertainment personalities.
When arch rivals India and Pakistan cricket teams face each other in the final of a major event the buzz and enjoyment are at the peak, as a packed Oval reverberated on Sunday.
Two years ago it was Adelaide which hosted an India-Pakistan match with numbers touching 60,000. Here at The Oval its 26,000 but the cacophony matched that of any Indo-Pak match.
Fans had thronged the stadium since morning as India's blue and tri-colour dominated, just like it did at the Edgbaston when arch rivals met in the first Group match on June 4.
But this is a bigger occasion. Tickets were black marketed at many times the original price while some fans had to return dejected as there were no tickets available at the ground.
But once teams took the field, all regrets and apprehensions were left behind.
The last time India faced Pakistan in an ICC event final was in the T20 World Cup in 2007 when India won the title. They have also dominated Pakistan in recent matches, having won six of the nine matches since 2011 World Cup.
That made India team favourites as Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bowl first.
With a mouth-watering clash to look forward, fans settled in the stands much after the first ball was bowled.
Chacha Cricket Sufi Abdul Jaleel has been omnipresent in Pakistan's matches. He had reached The Oval two hours before the start.
"I am here to support Pakistan," said Chacha, waiving a big Pakistan flag. "India has beaten us in most of the ICC events but this is our turn and we will show them that we can also win."
But Harish Panday, who has come from Baroda to watch the final, was quick to hit back.
"It will again be India," said Panday. "Pakistan do not have a team to beat us so it will again be India and Pakistan will have to go empty handed."
Stands dominated the blues and tri-colours but they have less moments of joy as opener Fakhar Zaman knocked a brilliant hundred to help Pakistan to a big 338 run total.
Now the Pakistan fans hope bowlers will do the job for them to celebrate whole night. - NNI
