ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is to appear before Joint Investigation Team (JIT) over Panama Leaks on June 15, sources reported on Sunday.
A private television channel quoted sources privy to the government as having said that the premier is scheduled to answer questions of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Additional Director General-led JIT on Thursday.
Two sons of the premier, Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz have earlier been summoned by the probe committee at least seven times combined. The team has directed the premier to "bring along all relevant record/documents/material."
The development has come in a day after the JIT chief filed a petition in the apex court over threats being faced by the members in the highly followed, first ever of its kind probe of a sitting Prime Minister of Pakistan.
He reportedly informed the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) in his petition about the security concerns, criticism on the members, external pressures and other difficulties faced by the JIT. Sources reported that the petition was prepared by the FIA Additional Director General himself besides Irfan Naeem Mangi of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Balochistan.
Almost every hearing of the JIT, headquartered in Federal Judicial Academy, witnessed a mob of premier's supporters chanting slogans outside whilst Hussain Nawaz or Hassan Nawaz answered SCP-formed committee's queries inside.
The top court had ordered formation of the JIT in its April 20 verdict which was reserved in February after a nearly four-month long trial of premier s family on petitions of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Awami Muslim League (AML) among others seeking leader s accountability.
The JIT has filed two preliminary reports in the apex court since then and according to the order, the team is required to file its findings within a period of two months.
Meanwhile, Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) is to hear a case on Monday, lodged on petition of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) over alleged difficulties being faced by its members in Panama Leaks probe.
The apex court is set to hear out reservations of the team a day after Additional Director General of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Wajid Zia filed a plea informing the bench of the threats, pressures and difficulties faced by the premier.

Zia is leading a JIT that is tasked by the top court to hold premier's family accountable for the wealth they own after a massive leak of a Panama-based law firm last year caused a worldwide uproar over shell entities registered under names of at least 400 incumbent as well former leaders of the world.
Though Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was not named in the leaked documents however, his sons and daughter were held owners of multiple offshore companies which were seen by Pakistani opposition as means to stash wealth abroad evading taxes.
The top court will be hearing JIT's issues two days ahead of PM Nawaz's appearance before the team as he has been summoned to answer questions.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Marriyum Aurangzeb, talking to different TV channels Sunday, confirmed that the Prime Minister had received the summons for appearing before the JIT on June 15, 2017 and in pursuance of the Supreme Court's order of April 20, he would ensure his presence accordingly adding that a new history was being written in Pakistan by his decision in this regard.
She said that his decision was a practical demonstration for his respect for law and the constitution.
The MOS said that he made this decision due to the trust of the people and unlike other did not try to find excuses to avoid the process.
She said that Imran Khan and opposition had been politicking on the issue claiming that the Prime Minister and his family members would never appear before the JIT. The minister said that the appearance of the Prime Minister before the JIT would set all such conspiracies at rest.
She said that from the very first day the Prime Minister had shown his willingness to present himself for accountability and had also written to the Chief Justice of Pakistan for initiation of a probe into the Panama Leaks. The MOS observed that despite reservations of the Sharif family
about the JIT, the Prime Minister had directed his non-resident sons to adhere to the law of the land and assist the Supreme Court.
She said Sharif family had been running their businesses since 60's when Nawaz Sharif held no public office and the relevant record of their financial transactions was available with Federal Board of Revenue. - Agencies
