ISLAMABAD: Attorney General on Friday submitted a joint reply in Supreme Court (SC), saying that all the government institutions including Prime Minister House have rejected allegations leveled by the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT).
AG asked the team to provide evidence of dictating any of the witnesses and said that decision cannot be taken without listening to the stance of those being accused in the JIT petition.
Quoting the reply of National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the report stated that the show cause notices issued to 77 officers including Irfan Naeem Mangi were not based on dishonesty. It assured to have implemented the directives as per the guidelines provided by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Law Ministry.
"Neither tempered record nor pressurized anyone," the AG said.
He said that the document, summoning PM to appear before JIT was either leaked by JIT or its staff members. He said that JIT attached media talk shows clippings and social media posts along with its complaint which probably consumed time for compilation.
On the other hand, the team reviewed answers submitted by Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif during a three-hour long appearance before the JIT whereas preparations have also been completed to interrogate Chief Minister of Punjab (CM) Shahbaz Sharif.
Captain retired Safdar has requested the team to call him anytime in the current week instead of June 24 due to his departure for Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.
Reacting on the premier's media talk outside Federal Judicial Academy, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah said that PM's paper reading during media talk shows that he is not trustworthy. He said that he knows everything who is a puppet and who is a puppeteer.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is scheduled to appear before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), tasked by the Supreme Court of Pakistan to probe Panama case, on Saturday.
He arrived on a special aircraft to Islamabad on Friday. Before he reaches the Federal Judicial Academy tomorrow, the nearby routes will remain sealed. There will be high security arrangements, including police, special branch, Federal Corps (FC) and Rangers officials. Sources told there will be a sum of 2,500 security personnel in the area.
Any irrelevant car or person will not be allowed to enter the Federal Judicial Academy. Having said that, no worker or leader from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will be permitted to arrive near the premises of the interrogation centre.
It should be noted that the brother of Punjab CM and Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, has already appeared before the Panama JIT for probe regarding the offshore accounts and financial detail of assets held by his family. ""I have presented myself, government and family before JIT for trial," he said in the media talk afterwards.
Others including Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and former Interior Minister Rehman Malik have also been summoned by the probe team.
Meanwhile, Special Assistant and Spokesperson to the Prime Minister Dr Musadik Malik Friday, terming the attitude of JIT biased, urged the Supreme Court to remove the uncertainty regarding its attitude.
Addressing a press conference along with the PML-N lawmaker Daniyal Aziz, he said in such a scenario, the decision of JIT would be doubtful.
He alleged that witnesses were being forced to take back their affidavits and being threatened with long imprisonments.
The spokesperson said conspiracies were being hatched against the PML-N government ever since it came into power.
Some internal and external forces wanted to destabilize the country and were continuously conspiring against an elected government, he added.
Dr Musadik said an elected Prime Minister has presented himself for accountability for the first time in the country's history and appeared before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) set up by the Supreme Court to probe Panama Papers issue.
He said all speculations were proved wrong yesterday when the PM appeared before the JIT. He said the prime minister appeared in JIT without any security apparatus to boost honor and dignity of judiciary and state institutions. It would also help strengthen democracy in the country, he added.
He said the Prime Minister appeared before the JIT despite the fact that his name was not present in the Panama Papers. Musadik said the prime minister presented all documents and details to the court and JIT about his family business.
He said impression was being given that the case might be of corruption or money laundering. He also questioned the veracity of JIT report which mentioned that picture of Hussain Nawaz was leaked by an unknown person of unknown institution.
Daniyal Aziz said the PTI chief was an absconder in many cases and he should face the courts. He said if the prime minister and his sons could appear before the JIT then why Imran Khan was reluctant to appear before the courts. He said Imran Khan was telling a lie and all his bank statements submitted to the court were contrary to each other.
To a question, Dr Musadik said they have great respect for judiciary and they would continue to appear before it and would also present their reservations about the JIT. He said the Prime Minister's statement after appearing before JIT was comprehensive and that he had presented all documents before the parliament and the court. - NNI
