'Edge'ing Out The Competition: Phoenix Students Earn Recognition - FINANCIAL-24

Students at Michael A. Maroun Elementary School are focusing on financial literacy and were recently lauded for their money saving expertise.

Through a collaboration with Edge Federal Credit Union, Phoenix students are learning about finances and opening Cub Saver accounts as part of a school-based program.

The students deposit money and track their savings during the year.

“The goal of this program is to teach kids financial literacy,” said Edge Federal Credit Union CEO Theresa Camerino. “They are learning at a young age the importance of saving money.”

As a result of their financial savvy so far this fall, 21 MAM students who are participating in the program earned special recognition for their efforts, as the “Golden Tree” trophy was recently presented to the school.

The distinction recognizes the school that yields the most savings of all participating schools in the area.

MAM students saved $283.77.

It celebrated with an ice cream social, sponsored by the credit union, in the cafeteria.
